The art of knitting has become
more prevalent in the arts and crafts industry over the years. It has been a
part of people’s leisure activity. Different types of knitters have different
preferences when it comes to creating garments. There are three types of
knitting needles used in the apparel industry.
If you love knitting, you can
choose from any of these types of knitting needles: straight, circular, and a
double-pointed knitting needle. It is up to you to choose a knitting needle
depending on your requirements. Here is a brief explanation about these 3 types
of knitting needles used in Garment Designing.
★
Straight
Needle: Straight needles are easy to use
in Garment Creation. They are
generally used for flat knitting. In this case, the knitting is done on the
right side and then on the wrong side. These types of needles are available in
several lengths. You can choose the length depending on the type of work you
are doing.
★
Circular
Needle: A circular needle is nothing but
a pair of straight knitting needle joined by a flexible cable. This type of
needle is used for knitting in a continuous, spiral-like fashion without
turning your work. This technique is useful for creating a seamless tube large
enough for a seater body or small enough for a neckband. A circular needle can
also be used as straight needles to knit back and forth.
Circular needles are now available
with interchangeable needle tips at various cable lengths. They can be useful
for multiple projects in garment construction, and make it easy to swap the needles when you are trying to
find the right gauge with your chosen yarn.
★
Double-pointed: Double-pointed needles have a point at both the ends. They are
usually sold in a set of four or five needles. They work in a similar way as a
circular needle. In the process of creating garment patterns, the double-pointed needles are used to make small tubes
especially when there are very few stitches to stretch around the circumference
of a circular needle - for things like sleeve cuffs, socks, tops of hats,
mittens, and so on.
For a knitting needle, various
factors like the weight, price and slipperiness can decide the right needle for
you. If you are curious to know more about creating a cloth, you can learn garment creation online with Hamstech
